Start your nursing career at a top-ranked pediatric hospital. Our New Graduate Nurse Residency Program provides evidence-based support and education for pediatric nurses in their first year of transition to professional practice. We offer graduate nurses the tools, resources and support to develop as confident, competent, skilled pediatric nurses.
This program is open to nurses who’ve graduated from an accredited nursing program within the 12 months before the cohort start date.
Seasoned nurses at Children’s Colorado uphold our exemplary care standards and act as leaders on their teams. From directing and managing daily operations to mentoring new nurses and ensuring consistent and exceptional care for patients and families, our nursing leaders use their clinical expertise to directly impact their units.
Our professional governance model encourages shared decision-making among team members and provides the structure for experienced nurses to shape their team’s performance and environment in meaningful ways.
If you’re a registered nurse looking to transition from adult healthcare into a career in pediatrics, we can help you make the switch. All BSN- or ADN-prepared nurses with at least one year of experience are eligible to apply to our transition to practice programs. With programs tailored to specific clinical areas, nurses of all skill levels and experience will find a path that suits their interests and expertise:
- Adult to Pediatrics
- New to NICU
- Ambulatory
Experienced nurses who have their associate degree in nursing (ADN) are eligible to apply for some pediatric nursing roles at Children’s Colorado, including clinical nurse II and operating room registered nurse. ADN applicants must have at least one year of nursing experience, current state licensure as a registered nurse and agree to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within three years from their start date.

Clinical Advancement Program
Our Clinical Advancement Program recognizes and rewards excellence in nursing. The program’s established framework provides structure and process for nurses to advance their careers and earn higher pay, while continuing to positively impact quality and patient safety.
Nursing continuing professional development offerings
Children’s Colorado offers hundreds of diverse nursing continuing professional development opportunities each year — from conferences and symposiums to asynchronous online courses. This allows our nurses to expand their knowledge and explore their interests.
Support for certifications
We provide financial support for our nurses to pursue one certification per year related to their practice area, whether that’s renewing an existing certification or pursuing a new one. We also encourage all our nurses to become a certified pediatric nurse to showcase their expertise in caring for kids.
Nursing research and innovation
Research and innovation are core components of our mission to advance child healthcare. We partner with the University of Colorado’s College of Nursing to operate the state’s only hospital-based pediatric nursing research fellowship and host a research program for our patient care services. Our team leads the development and management of clinical research studies, provide mentorship and education, and contribute new knowledge to the field of pediatrics.

A magnet for excellence
Children’s Colorado is a four-time recipient of the highest international recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program. Magnet status means our hospital system exceeds national benchmarks for clinical performance, patient and family service, and nurse satisfaction.
This recognition applies to all our Denver area locations and the Briargate Outpatient Care Facility in Colorado Springs.
Beacon Award for Excellence
Our pediatric intensive care unit on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora is the only one in the state to be honored with a gold-level Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
Nightingale Luminary Awards
In 2024, three of our nurses were awarded Colorado's most prestigious nursing recognition for their exemplary contributions in advocacy, innovation and leadership. Dozens of our nurses were nominated and nine were finalists.
DAISY Awards
The DAISY Awards recognize extraordinary nurses and nursing leaders. Every year, dozens of Children’s Colorado nurses are honored with this award, and even more are nominated by patients, families and fellow team members.
