Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Chromosome 15 and Related Disorders Clinic is recognized as a center of excellence in Angelman syndrome and Dup15q by the Angelman Foundation and the Dup15q Alliance, two leading organizations dedicated to advancing awareness and treatment of these disorders. It is one of 40 hospitals worldwide prepared to treat these patients and one of three to earn this designation.

Angelman syndrome and Dup15q are caused by changes in a gene on chromosome 15. Diana Walleigh, MD, leads the clinic where her team sees approximately 200 patients with Angelman syndrome and around 50 patients with Dup15q of all ages. This designation will help support the clinic, secure funding and increase research capabilities. Currently the team consists of 10 staff members. From nutrition to neurology, the clinic provides comprehensive care and services for patients and their families — and there’s still more to accomplish.

“They’re amazing people, patients and kids. There is so much potential to unlock in each of them,” Dr. Walleigh says. “It’s our job to unlock that.”
