What our oncology research means for kids

Our surgical oncology team is truly multidisciplinary, working closely with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders to navigate research and treatments for the best possible outcomes. Our researchers are leaders in therapeutic approaches to treating a variety of conditions, including Wilms tumor, osteosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma and more.

Surgical oncology advancements

At the forefront of our surgical oncology research is the importance of fertility in childhood and adolescent cancer patients. The Pediatric Surgical Oncology Research Collaborative (PSORC) selected Children’s Colorado’s proposal as a 2025 research focus area, ensuring oncofertility research can help patients minimize the effects of cancer on the reproductive system for healthier fertility in the future.

Researchers are also gathering recommendations for patients with Wilms tumor to improve future fertility after treatment and available preservation options. We want kids to be kids during their cancer journey, but understanding fertility research and options can make a difference in their future.

Our researchers are also involved in ongoing studies as a part of the Children’s Oncology Group, specifically on renal tumors, liver tumors, neuroblastoma and osteosarcoma. Collaborating with outside groups allows us to be on the frontline of new innovations in treatment and connect with scientists around the world to provide better outcomes.
