Phlebotomy Site Supervisor

Summary

Responsible for daily management over phlebotomy site(s) and staff within the department of pathology and laboratory medicine. Performs clerical and/or technical duties of low to moderate complexity, in support of laboratory operations. 

The ideal candidate will have clinical leadership experience, and strong communication skills.

Shift

Monday - Friday

08:00 a.m. - 16:30 p.m.

This role is based out of Colorado Springs (Briargate), but will be directly responsible for all Briargate OPL staff as well as South Campus (Highlands Ranch) OPL staff. This role will require travel to support these system of care locations.

All training will be performed at the Anschutz campus, in Aurora.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Directs day to day technical duties for section. Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; assists with hiring and firing team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.

• Participates in leadership activities for department, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives. Serves as a champion of organizational culture, influencing culture change to support site objectives.
• Supports customer service standards and handles customer service escalations for site. Responds in a timely manner to patient/customer needs, including prompt attention to pneumatic tubes, customer deliveries, patient wait times, patient escalations, and phone calls.
• Participates in the support and monitoring of compliance with all regulatory agencies and federally funded programs, productivity analysis, quality/performance improvement and patient/employee safety; ensures compliance against federal, state, and local regulations.
• Responsible for the coordination and/or oversight of site-specific programs/projects/initiatives as defined by leadership.
• Ensures patient is correctly identified through the hospital registration system, account numbers are current and correct tests are ordered; checks requisitions for data entry errors and resolves questionable orders in a timely manner.
• Collects additional non-blood specimens within scope of practice including, but not limited, to nasopharyngeal swabs, throat swabs, buccal swabs, and urine specimens.
• May perform sweat testing collection.
• Actively participate in process improvement activities.
• Assists in creation of competency documents and perform competency assessments.
• Additional resource for technical and clinical expertise at lab site and a clinical consultant to care providers, involving manager/section supervisor, pathologist or medical director when indicated.
• Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
• Accurately collects and handles appropriate patient samples for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in support of clinical laboratory operations. Procures blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick, or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines; serve as a technical resource for difficult collections and information.

  • Required: Three (3) years of phlebotomy experience.
• Equivalency
  • Two years experience above stated requirements may substitute for associate's degree.

• Additional Requirements
  • PBT or EMT-B or EMT IV certificate PBT (ASCP), or equivalent certification required. In addition to PBT (ASCP), may hold Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT – B) certificate or Emergency Medical Technician, Intravenous Therapy (EMT – IV) certificate.

• Leadership experience within a clinical setting.
• Experience and confidence using Microsoft Office applications such as: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $29.76 to $44.64
